IWLA Supports Bipartisan Bill to Incentivize Investments in Energy Efficient Building Systems

IWLA sent a letter of support to Representatives Brad Schneider (D-IL) and Tom Rice (R-SC)  for their legislation, the Energy Efficient Qualified Improvement Property (E-QUIP) Act (H.R.2346), on May 12. The legislation establishes an elective 10-year cost recovery period for property characterized as “E-QUIP expenditures.”

The benefit would apply to improvements in both commercial buildings and multifamily units and covers components and controls for the main systems that most impact energy consumption, including heating and cooling, lighting, and envelope. In order to use this benefit, installed systems must meet certain performance standards.

IWLA is working with a coalition of allied stakeholders to generate support for the legislation within the House and to have a version of the bill introduced in the Senate. The coalition is also working to potentially have the provisions of the E-QUIP Act included in future legislative packages related to infrastructure.
