IWLA Honors Chicago-based Warehouse Law Expert with First-ever Pinnacle Award

IWLA Honors Chicago-based Warehouse Law Expert with 
First-ever Pinnacle Award

April 19, 2016 (DES PLAINES, Ill.) –The International Warehouse Logistics Association, the resource for warehouse logistics, named Scopelitis Law Firm Partner Kevin Phillips winner of the Pinnacle Award during the association’s 2016 Convention & Expo. Phillips received this new award March 15 during the 2016 IWLA Convention & Expo in Orlando, Fla.

The IWLA Pinnacle Award recognizes membership service by an individual from an IWLA member organization. It is given as warranted to individuals who complete a specific, timely service for IWLA members. The IWLA Executive Committee created this award in 2015.

The association recognized Phillips for his work with the IWLA Insurance & Legal Committee as it revised sample templates, documents, and contracts for IWLA members’ reference.

“Kevin Phillips helps warehouse owners and operators every day,” says IWLA President & CEO Steve DeHaan. “His expertise ensures that shippers and retailers fully understand the nature and scope of their relationship with a warehouse. Kevin and the IWLA committee dedicated many hours to editing and honing standard templates and documents for today’s complex warehousing market,” says IWLA President & CEO Steve DeHaan.

Phillips’ practice at is concentrated in all aspects warehouse legal liability including property losses, general liability, regulatory compliance, enforcement of warehousemen’s liens, and review of storage contracts. Phillips represents warehousemen, shippers, carriers, and freight forwarders in tort, contract, bailment, warranty, and statutory-based actions. In addition to Phillips’ litigation practice, he drafts, negotiates, and reviews warehousing and transportation documents, including warehouse receipt, bills of lading, freight contracts, standard contract terms and conditions, security agreements, and tariffs.

Phillips graduated with a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University. He received his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School.

The award was also granted to fellow IWLA Insurance & Legal Committee member Ann Christopher, CWLP, vice president & general counsel of Kenco Logistic Service, based in Chattanooga, Tenn.
