Ohio Senators Introduce Bipartisan Railway Safety Act in Wake of Derailment

Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH), along with four other co-sponsors, introduced the bipartisan Railway Safety Act last Wednesday in response to the recent Norfolk Southern derailment in East Palestine, OH. The bill would enhance safety procedures for trains carrying hazardous materials to reduce the risk of wheel bearing failures; require well trained, two person crews aboard every train; force rail carriers to face heightened fines for wrongdoing; support communities impacted by rail disasters; and invest in future safety improvements.
