Program Overview & Faculty

New/evolving legislation and regulations make doing business in California a moving target – and COVID-19 continues to change your business every day. IWLA California Chapter members have an advantage: Warehouse-business-focused meetings that provide insight into legislative activities and peer discussion about how to best handle these emerging issues. 

This event will be an information- and strategy-intensive session for those who actively engage. Our expert panel of dynamic speakers will discuss the following key issues:

10 a.m.     Introductions & Opening Remarks - Mike Williams, Executive Director, IWLA California Chapter

10:15 a.m. Indirect Source Rules (ISR) WAIRE Program & AB 617 Update -Peter Herzog, Assistant Director of Legislative Affairs, Commercial Real Estate Association, SoCal Chapter (NAIOP)

Peter Herzog will provide an update on the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) ISR WAIRE program. He will also provide an overview of AB 617’s Community Air Protection Program (CAPP) that will cover specifics on California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) goal of reducing harmful exposures to those communities most impacted by air pollution.

Herzog has more than 20 years of public policy experience both as an elected official for county and statewide Air Quality issues. He has worked on numerous committees and commissions and professionally on behalf of the NAIOP.

11 a.m.      Port of Long Beach (POLB) Update - Dr. Noel Hacegaba, Deputy Executive Director at Port of Long Beach (POLB)

Dr. Noel Hacegaba will provide an update on the POLB in the wake of the coronavirus and how it will impact logistics moving forward. He will also discuss infrastructure planning and economic development at the POLB and initiatives for 2021.

Hacegaba serves as managing director of Commercial Operations at the Port of Long Beach. He was appointed to the post in October 2014 by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners.

Noon         Labor & Employment Law Update

Paul Marron, Founder & Principal, Marron Lawyers, APC

Paul Marron will provide an overview of the new California laws impacting the 3PL/Warehouse Logistics industry for 2020 as well as strategic considerations for your business and workforce. Additionally, he will provide an update on key labor law decisions by the NLRB, best practices on how to avoid PAGA lawsuit claims. He will also cover wage and hour pitfalls and company best practices including an update regarding the Dynamex decision considerations for employee and independent contractor business models post AB, the Protect App Based Drivers and Services Act – Proposition, and much more.
