Container Excess Dwell Fees Delayed Through December 6

In a joint press release, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced they will again delay consideration of container dwell fees through December 6, 2021 citing continued progress in the movement of long-dwelling import containers. The fees are designed to speed the flow of cargo from terminals amid unprecedented congestion. Since the fees were announced in late October, the twin ports have experienced a 37% decline of aging cargo on their docks. Earlier this month, IWLA and over 80 other associations representing supply chain stakeholders expressed their concerns about the fees in a letter to Federal Maritime Commission Chairman Dan Maffei.
