Texas Warehouse President Elected to IWLA Executive Committee
June 28, 2016 (Des Plaines, Ill.) – Members of the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA), the resource for warehouse logistics, recently elected Brett Mears, president, Palmer Logistics, based in Houston, Texas, to a five-year term on the IWLA Executive Committee. Mears’ position as secretary was formally announced during the recent IWLA Annual Business Meeting.
Mears is an active IWLA member, participating in the IWLA Chemical Council, the IWLA Warehouse Membership Committee, and as the board liaison to the IWLA Sister Associations & Industry Committee.
“Brett uses his own experience to help members get the most out of the IWLA experience. And he helps unify the broader warehousing and supply chain industry by developing our relationship with groups like the Texas Warehouse Association,” says IWLA President & CEO Steve DeHaan. “We are grateful that he has joined the IWLA Executive Committee. Our members can continue to tap into his experience.”
Mears started in sales at the family company, Palmer Logistics, a third-party warehouse. Named company president in 2002, he has helped the company grow by 120 percent, adding 750,000 square-feet of distribution space and more than 90 jobs. In 2005, he partnered with his brother to form Pioneer Freight, an asset-based trucking operation that now has more than 70 power units with $7 million in annual revenues.
His service to the industry is broader than IWLA: Mears has served as treasurer, vice president, and president in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) Houston Roundtable. He helped found and is chairman of the Logistics Trust of Texas, a worker’s compensation self-insurance group. He is the president of the Texas Warehouse Association and he serves on the board of directors for the Texas Association of Business (TAB).
Mears has a bachelor’s degree in business administration, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame. He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. He completed tours on the USS CHAMPION (MCM-4) in Ingleside, Texas, and the USS CHOSIN (CG-65) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during which he qualified as Surface Warfare Officer and was awarded the Naval Commendation Medal and the Naval Achievement Medal three times. Mears resides in Kingwood, Texas, with his wife of 14 years, Denise, and their three children: Nicholas, Blake, and Victoria.
