IWLA Applauds Committee Passage of CTPAT Pilot Program Act

The House Homeland Security Committee advanced H.R.6826, the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) Pilot Program Act, to the full U.S. House last week. The legislation would establish a pilot program to include 3PL warehouses and freight brokers in the Customs and Border Protection’s CTPAT program. The bill would allow ten 3PL warehouses and ten freight brokers to take part in the pilot.

CTPAT is a partnership between supply chain leaders and the federal government that allows companies to expedite freight through the country to reduce trade and supply chain disruptions while keeping U.S. borders secure.

Representative Elissa Slotkin (MI-8), sponsor of the CTPAT Pilot Program Act, quoted IWLA’s support in a press release from her office last week:

Third-party logistics providers (3PLs) are a critical link in international supply chains. The International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) applauds Representatives Slotkin and Miller-Meeks for recognizing this with their introduction of the CTPAT Pilot Program Act. This legislation is an important step to finally allowing 3PLs to participate in CTPAT. 3PLs are eager to demonstrate their adherence to CTPAT security criteria. Compliant supply chains are good for trade and good for this nation's security. We stand ready to work to gain passage of the CTPAT Pilot Program Act. - IWLA
