Program Overview
The purpose of IWLA’s 119th Annual Convention is to bring proven ideas and practices to our membership (1) to pull costs out of their own companies while improving operations and customer service; (2) to learn and apply new human resource programs that keep morale high and improve morale during rightsizing events; and (3) to identify and mine profit and growth opportunities.
The Convention program and breakout sessions offer hands-on instruction and provide knowledge from proven industry leaders and expert practitioners.
By attending the IWLA Annual Convention, you will be able to return with at least 3 money-saving and/or profit-making practices for your business, plus you will be able to exchange ideas with your peers on these topics to ensure you are at the top of your leadership ability.

Keynote Positive Psychology: How to Succeed & Be Happy at the Same Time

Keynote Transportation: A Collaboration with Warehousing
Tommy Hodges, President, Goggin Warehousing & ATA Chairman
Hodges will speak to the current issues the impact trucking and its relationship to 3PL companies. He will discuss the supply chain from the viewpoint of the trucking industry and how 3PLs can improve their collaboration with the trucking industry for the increased profitability of both entities.
Keynote Survive & Prosper: Ideas that Work
Moderator: Bill Mongelluzzo, West Coast editor, Journal of Commerce
Panelists: Andrew Smith, President & COO, Kenco Logistic Services; Jim Eckler, President & CEO, SCI Group
Panelists will present to the members ideas and practices that have enabled them to earn a profit in challenging times. Mongelluzzo will prompt each panelist to provide the circumstances and details on how the improvements came about and how they can be implemented by other 3PLs.
Keynote Sustainability is Free
Dale Rogers, PhD, Director, Center for Logistics Management, University of Nevada
Many companies believe that being environmentally conscious and socially responsible sacrifices economic performance. This belief is not true. For some companies, sustainability means environmental stewardship; for others, it means social responsibility. Rogers will discuss how supply chains and the companies that comprise them can achieve sustainability without reducing profitability. Rogers will discuss how the term sustainability is applied within their organizations, the relevance and economic import of sustainable supply chain management, how sustainable supply chains can be implemented, and future trends in sustainable supply chain management.
Recapture Your Cash
Kevin Phillips, Attorney, Fisher Kanaris; John Horvath, Attorney, Horvath & Weaver
Phillips and Horvath will examine the bankruptcy enforcement process as well as goods disposition, and discuss specific case examples and steps 3PLs must take to protect themselves when customers go bankrupt. Members should attend this session to ensure they take the steps required to protect their warehouse liens.
Food Storage & Safety

This session will explain what it takes to run a strong food products operation. Panelists will also discuss what types of products (eg, food, alcohol, cigarettes) and customers they courted to their warehouse facilities in tough times; and they will assess the opportunities, requirements, risks, and rewards. Recent federal regulations have changed what is and is not permissible under the strict supply chain process for food grade products. Data Driven Management: How to Get, Validate & Act on the Facts that Will Grow Your Business in Tough Times

Langley will review the 14th Annual Third Party Logistics Study, a study that has tracked key trends and views of customers who use 3PL services. For the first time, the 2009 study also offers perspectives from the 3PL provider sector itself.

O’Connor, IWLA’s DC representative, will discuss current happenings in Washington, DC. He will examine a range of issues that serve as the 2009 agenda for IWLA’s Government Affairs, including the Employee Free Choice Act, legislation to regulate the railroads, as well as supply chain safety and security for food, pharmaceuticals, and hazardous materials and the potential effect on 3PLs.
